Town Hall Meetings
In the very near future, we will be holding town hall style meetings at several locations across the state. We will be inviting Legislators with SCI’s in their districts to attend these meetings.
John Wetzel is the face of the Department of Corrections. It is his policies that are causing employees to get hurt. John Wetzel’s policies have caused our jails to fall into disarray over his tenure. We will be asking for a comprehensive review of all policies concerning Inmate Discipline. We would like as many H-1 members, their family and friends to attend. Unfortunately, we will not be able to hold a meeting for all sites so we will be looking for areas where we feel we can combine a few jails.
We have conveyed to the legislators the state of affairs of our jails. Specifically, the violence that we endure and witness on a regular basis. We want to give you the opportunity to voice your concerns to YOUR Representatives. This will be your opportunity to give a firsthand account.
We will be discussing the following but not limited to:
1.) Staff Assaults
2.) John Wetzel’s policies
A. Enforcement of the rules and regulations of our institutions
B. Lack of holding inmates accountable when the rules are not followed
C. Hearing Examiners DWOPing, dismissing and being extremely liberal in application of sanctions
It is time to come together as brothers and sisters. We need to fix this mess together. We must show that we are united. We want to make your jail safe. We need your help. Numbers do matter. I am sure that some of you are thinking, “Why should I go, nothing is going to change.” You can no longer stand on the sidelines and watch. Attendance to these meetings is extremely important. Please do your best to attend these meetings.
There are still assaults happening that we are not being made aware of. Please make sure that you fill out a PSCOA incident form and give it to a Local Steward.
There are a lot of logistics involved in putting something like this together. When we finalize a place and time, we will let you know. In the meantime stay safe and watch each other’s backs.
